The name was took from a community which founded in the 1920’s Russia by Dziga Vertov. The mere meaning was Eye of a Camera. According to its name, Kinoki focusing their activities by making film with documentary method, which is recording all events in the everyday life and screens them in the ghettos or certain avenues. By seeking to this name, Kinoki Jogja idealize the same expectation with the Kinoki made by Vertov, that is wanting to make all people has possibilities to watch whatever films, from wherever.

 

The film itself, for many people, is still consider as luxury, whether it is because of the price or the accessibility of certain films. Apart from that, to play the film with good quality needs electronic equipment that also not cheap. These matters became special attention for Kinoki Jogja.

For them, films has replace tales that use to hear and read, by the Indonesian people, especially that this media is the most easy to penetrate with educational elements. According to its founder, Elida Tamalagi, Kinoki Jogja is a room for interact with the using of audio visual as the main medium. The principal vision is attempting to build networks while holding on to the keywords: public and free of charge. Thus, beside from accessing free films, here, everybody can also join some educative programs which held by Kinoki such as writing exercise together with educative discussion on video and community
 Kinoki Jogja experienced a couple of replacement of venue as a result of certains disaster in Indonesia recently. For instance, on August 2nd 2005, Kinoki Jogja which address at Jalan Tirtodipuran No. 2, ruined by the Yogyakarta earthquake, which has taken thousands of life. From the year 2006 to 2007, they move to Jalan Suroto No. 20 Kotabaru before finally they settle in at Jalan Abu Bakar Ali No. 2 Kotabaru. As a place to watching films and hanging out with all your friends, Kinoki Jogja should one place of reference. Despite of making new friends, at this place there are a lot of educational activities which can fulfil our intelectual desire. Well, let’s go, then!
